Letting Loose: Remembering Expressive Mark-Making

February 15 - 20, 2015

Esalen Institute, Big Sur, CA

From the bottom of your feet to the tips of your fingers, employ your entire body to make marks that communicate your emotions. We will explore a range of tools that allow for heightened expression, and use mural-sized sheets of paper and/or canvas inside and outdoors as we put ourselves fully into the abstract expressionist process.

As we create our gestural abstractions, you will have the opportunity to reconnect your creative intention and your visual response with immediacy and in a manner that is unrestricted by the limitations of your normal work space, or your typical work process. If you have always wanted to revisit the action painting process of artists such as Jackson Pollack, Helen Frankenthaler, Franz Kline and others, – join us as we splash, fling, pour, drip, smear and drizzle our way to a state of pure creative harmony.
