Body Work: A Drawing/Painting Path to Self-Knowledge

Sept 7 - 9, 2018
9 am - 4 pm daily (with a 1 hour lunch break)

Hannon Barn in Arroyo Grande, CA
$450.00

Draw or paint the figure to better know yourself, or even to heal yourself. The desire to create a perfect likeness can constrict your true art as well as your human spirit. During this workshop, rediscover the courage to take risks in an atmosphere of affirmation and acceptance. Learn new tools and techniques while you loosen up the stranglehold that grips your figurative artwork. Demonstrations on the use of dowels as primitive pens with special properties for expressive line work will be offered. Participants will be shown ways to employ new forms of graphite as an effective shape-making material. The value of utilizing preliminary abstract environments as a means to liberate your painting, ink, and/or mixed media drawings will illustrated.  Non-traditional tools and techniques will be encouraged. Connections will be drawn between specific poses and their potential for personal and/or universal narrative. Prior experience working with the human figure as a visual art subject is suggested as basic anatomy will not be taught.
