Artist Statement

Pleasantly skillful work does not interest me because it does not ask enough from the viewer, or expose enough of the creator. I prefer art that records an honest struggle—an intense and often an awkward search to locate images that are large, revealing, passionate, and raw. My artwork is often initiated by building a chaotic field of color, abstract mark and shape. Carving order out of apparent disorder is a work process that has a metaphoric relationship to life itself.
