While working “in residence” at the Atlantic Center for the Arts in Florida during January of 2010 and 2011, I initiated a series entitled Hanging by a Thread: Mother Earth in Peril. I had been thinking about this concept for a year or more and finally the moment was right to begin. The facility provided abundant work space and uninterrupted time to tackle mural-sized monochromatic canvases. In that setting the idea of creating a truly heroic collection seemed plausible and I set off to portray our relationship with and our responsibility to a planet under attack.
